“A relaxing activity prior to bedtime is a good idea.” John L. Eickholt, MD
Are you looking for a great excuse to push the work and to-do list aside for some self-care? Here it is – doctor’s orders!
Everyone is different in what they consider to be relaxing, and that’s okay. If you choose to watch TV or a movie, or read a book, try not to choose anything that could be upsetting right before bed. If sitting down doesn’t appeal to you, try taking a slow stroll outside, or a warm shower.
Special note on any activity that involves a screen or light: be sure to power down and turn off at least 30 minutes prior to bedtime. Yes, you may use them to relax, but please, please, please find another relaxing activity for the last 30 minutes of the evening.
Whatever you decide to do to relax before bed, make sure the activity takes place in an area of the house other than the bedroom. *If you are completing/have completed our Sleep and Relaxation course, your nighttime relaxation exercise can be done in the bedroom. This post refers to any activity that takes place prior to your nighttime relaxation exercise.*
