Here’s the big secret: take care of yourself, and help other family members do the same.
Prioritize yourself and your health. If you’re struggling, you can’t possibly perform at your highest level to take care of everyone else.
When one person in the family is sick, it affects the entire family. Not convinced? Think back to the last time one family member was sick. Perhaps different arrangements had to be made to get the kids where they needed to go. Maybe the dishes started to pile up in the sink. If that person still tried to fulfill all their responsibilities while sick, they may have been able to accomplish the tasks, but probably not as well as if they had been healthy.
Lack of sleep is very similar to being sick. A week of poor sleep may have a small impact on the rest of the family, but what happens when poor sleep becomes a patter that lasts months, or even years? It may create or increase tension or stress, which leads to fights and hurt feelings.
